Recorded for Blue Note in November 1967, "The Sixth Sense" is a particularly compelling example. Morgan leads a stellar sextet featuring Jackie McLean on alto saxophone, Frank Mitchell on tenor saxophone, Cedar Walton on piano, Victor Sproles on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums. The title track opens the album with propulsive rhythms and a sinuous melody, while "Psychedelic" taps into Morgan's unmistakable boogaloo groove. Cedar Walton's powerful "Afreaka" provides another highlight before the set closes with Cal Massey's poignant ballad "The Cry Of My People." A vibrant, richly textured album from one of the most prolific periods of Morgan's career.

BLUE NOTE TONE POET EDITION: Stereo, produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analogue master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a gatefold sleeve with deluxe tip-on jacket.

Tracklisting

The Sixth Sense (1970)

A1 The Sixth Sense
A2 Short Count
A3 Psychedelic

B1 Afreaka
B2 Anti Climax
B3 The Cry Of My People

Lee Morgan (trumpet) / Jackie McLean (alto saxophone) / Frank Mitchell (tenor saxophone) / Cedar Walton (piano) / Victor Sproles (bass) / Billy Higgins (drums)

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0701/2417/5395/files/Lee-Morgan_The-Sixth-Sense_Tone-Poet-Vinyl_s526256_o8407451_a671800_v14048869.afac0280.png?v=1791882959
