Das Ballett, das von Tamara Rojo, der künstlerischen Leiterin des San Francisco Ballet, in Auftrag gegeben und inszeniert wurde, mit Choreografie von Aszure Barton und Bühnenbild sowie visuellen Elementen von Hamill Industries, interpretiert die Geschichte von Pandora in einer Verschmelzung von Mythos, Musik und Bewegung neu. Das mit dem San Francisco Ballet Orchestra für die Deutsche Grammophon aufgenommene Album mit 14 Titeln ist eine kraftvolle Mischung aus elegischen Streichern, apokalyptischen Blechbläsern und pulsierender Elektronik. Von der lyrischen Solovioline in „Hope“ über die Dissonanzen und die hämmernden Percussions in „Rage of the Gods“ bis hin zur exquisiten Harfenmelodie in „Her Gift“ vor der unheimlichen Atmosphäre von „Opening of the Jar“ ist die Partitur reich an Textur und Wirkung.
