At 88, Charles Lloyd remains one of the defining jazz musicians of his generation. With "Sangam & Friends", the saxophonist honors the long-standing musical and personal bond he shared with his friend Zakir Hussain. Their collaboration grew out of Lloyd's lifelong fascination with India’s spiritual and artistic traditions. The album features previously unreleased recordings made in Mumbai in 2009, bringing together the Sangam trio - Charles Lloyd, Zakir Hussain, and Eric Harland - with acclaimed Indian classical musicians. Following Hussain’s passing in December 2024, these recordings take on added emotional significance, preserving both an extraordinary artistic partnership and a deep friendship.
