Release date: December 4, 2026

After moving from Detroit to New York in 1957, trombonist Curtis Fuller quickly became a key presence on the Blue Note scene, appearing on landmark sessions including John Coltrane's "Blue Train". Recorded that December at Rudy Van Gelder's Hackensack studio, „Vol. 3" was Fuller's third Blue Note date as a leader and features a superb quintet with Art Farmer on trumpet, Sonny Clark on piano, George Tucker on bass, and Louis Hayes on drums. The album showcases Fuller's distinctive writing and warm, agile trombone sound, from the Jazz Messengers-inspired drive of "Little Messenger" to the Afro-Cuban pulse of "Quantrale" and the expansive, cinematic "Carvon." The set closes on a gentler note with a tender reading of "It's Too Late Now." A swinging and richly varied snapshot of Fuller at the beginning of an exceptional career.

BLUE NOTE TONE POET EDITION: Stereo, produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analogue master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a gatefold sleeve with deluxe tip-on jacket.
