Even more than 60 years after her far too early death, many legends (some true, some false) still surround Billie Holiday. The documentary "BILLIE " by British director James Erskine tries to shed a little more light on the subject. Designed like a film noir, "BILLIE " tells the story of one of the world's greatest jazz singers, whose life was full of controversies, highlights and setbacks.

The soundtrack for BILLIE features the classic studio versions of many of the songs heard live in the film: such as "Now Or Never," "God Bless The Child," "Fine And Mellow," "I Only Have Eyes For You" and, of course, "Strange Fruit." Other highlights of the album include a live Carnegie Hall recording of "Don't Explain" and two instrumentals from the film.
