Tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon belonged to the phalanx of top-class US jazz musicians who had settled in Paris in the 1960s. He recorded "Our Man In Paris" there in 1963 with two more of them - pianist Bud Powell and drummer Kenny Clarke - as well as French bassist Pierre Michelot. In addition to absolute bebop classics such as Charlie Parker's "Scrapple From The Apple" and Dizzy Gillespie's "A Night In Tunisia", Gordon also interpreted pop ballads such as "Willow Weep For Me" and "Stairway To The Star".
