Cole is at the height of his artistry here, both as an unmistakable vocalist and an outstanding jazz pianist. Together with his trio and guests including Harry “Sweets” Edison, Willie Smith, Stuff Smith, and Juan Tizol, he blends elegant swing, intimate vocals, and the relaxed atmosphere of a late-night jam session. The Penguin Guide to Jazz includes the album in its recommended “Core Collection.” In addition to the series’ renowned premium features, this edition includes a booklet with rare archival photographs and an essay by Cole expert Will Friedwald.
BLUE NOTE TONE POET SERIES: Mono, produced by Joe Harley, mastered fully analog by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, pressed at RTI on 2 x 180g vinyl, housed in a deluxe tip-on gatefold jacket with a padded inner sleeves.
