Small Talk At 125th And Leno

Black Vinyl LP - 180g, Gatefold
€34,99

Release date: 17 February 2023

Gil Scott-Heron was 21 years old when he was signed by Bob Thiele at Flying Dutchman to make an album of his poems. The resulting ‘Small Talk at 125th and Lenox’ was recorded in front of a small live audience and, released in 1970, fitted perfectly into a world in which the Last Poets had just had a top-10 hit with their debut LP.
It opens with a spoken-word version of ‘The Revolution Will Not Be Televised’ and also features poems and tracks such as ‘Omen’, ‘Brother’, ‘Plastic Pattern People’, ‘Paint It Black’ and ‘Everyday’, which reflect on the Black community and its condition in the US at that time.
Like its successor ‘Pieces Of A Man’, ‘Small Talk at 125th and Lenox’ is a classic, now reissued on vinyl in a gatefold sleeve with the original liner notes.
